Cooper had a pretty good day today. His breathing has been a bit better than yesterday, but he might be given caffeine tomorrow to give him a little extra help. He did gain weight again today, and is now 2090 grams, or 4 lbs 9 oz! I asked the resident about his surgery and they will likely do it at 5 lbs 8 oz, so we still have about another pound to gain.
This morning Cooper's hand with the pic line was looking very puffy and swollen. We watched it throughout the day, and it did not improve. However, it didn't seem to be bothering Cooper at all and he didn't seem to be in any pain, fortunately. An xray was ordered to make sure the pic line was still in the right place, and everything looked okay there. If fluid from the pic line is going to the incorrect place, Cooper would have had some cardiac events today. Luckily, that was not the case. It doesn't appear that he has an infection because his hand isn't red or hot. The hypothesis about the swollen hand is that the dressing on the pic line is too tight, and cutting off his circulation. They changed the dressing this evening and will keep a close eye on his hand. We're just praying it's that simple fix, and not anything more serious...
