Sunday, September 6th Update

Today was not the best day that Cooper's had recently. Throughout the day he was having large oxygen desaturation spells. Everyone is still pretty sure that it's being caused by reflux, but it's hard to tell for sure, because Cooper doesn't spit up or show full-term baby reflux symptoms. We talked about other possible causes for the desaturation spells, but his picc line still seems to be in the right place, his electrolyte levels are good, he's not anemic (and producing blood on his own, which is great), as well as a number of other things. All signs seem to be pointing to reflux. The nurse was going to watch him tonight, and if the spells continue hopefully tomorrow they will add some anti-reflux medicine to his feeds so that the acid doesn't burn his throat when it comes up. It's so hard to watch Cooper grimace and cry, and then stop breathing as he tries to protect his airway. Hopefully he will grow out of this phase quickly.

This morning we found out that Cooper's take down surgery will likely happen next week! I never thought the day would come. They will continue to monitor his weight gain this week and then set a date for next week with the same surgeon who performed the first surgery in July. We might actually make it home by his due date, October 12th. :)

We just called the hospital and Cooper has been asleep for the last few hours, so the nurse was going to wait until he was awake to do his cares and weigh him. We won't know that number until tomorrow morning. Thank you for praying for Cooper! He is making great progress and we're thankful for the mighty miracles happening in his life. Hopefully we can make him more comfortable as he deals with reflux and have a better day tomorrow.

Thanks to Sara for this adorable monster outfit!
