Sunday, August 9th Update

There is not much new in the world of Cooper.
Today they weaned down the supplemental oxygen he is receiving by a small amount (down to 3.5 liters from 4).  He's breathing really well and is having fewer and fewer moments where his oxygen levels drop.  If they ever do go down, he almost always is able to self-correct and start breathing faster to bring them back up.  It's a comforting thing to have your child develop the proper breathing instincts so that he doesn't have to be reminded of its importance quite so much.
He is still tolerating his increased feedings, so he should be trending upward as far as weight goes.  They did not weigh him tonight, but we'll have a weight by tomorrow morning.  Last time before they weighed him I set a goal of 1200 grams, and he ended up being 1195.  Just short.  I think he can do better though, and my fingers are crossed for at least 1220.  We'll let you know tomorrow!
Finally, the reason that they skipped his weigh-in tonight was so that they could perform another head ultrasound to monitor his brain bleeding/swelling.  We don't have the results yet, but they should be discussing it when the doctors do their rounds tomorrow morning.  Of all the issues he has, this one tends to be the scariest as it has the greatest potential to cause long-term issues.  That being said, prayers for Cooper and his brain are certainly appreciated!  Thank you and good night.
